Report of Parish Council Meeting – May 4th 2010

Councillors welcomed the new Parish Councillor, Mrs Christine Brown who lives at Lockley Wood.

Memorial Hall – The plans for the alterations to the Hall have now been passed and the Committee has applied for several grants.

Shropshire Council has offered the free use of a portable skateboard park to Parishes. Councillors agreed that it would be welcome during the school holidays, and Councillors Sarah North, John Lutner and Kevin Harvey will attend training classes in its use.

The Police Post Box has now arrived, and the Village Initiative Group has kindly offered to install it on the notice board by the Post Office. This will allow Parishioners to inform the Police of any concerns they may have, anonymously. It will be emptied regularly by the police, who have the only key.

Councillor Phillips has attended some motor bike rallies at the Stormy Petrel, with PC Sturland. She reported that The Bikers are all safety conscious, and she will obtain statistics of any accidents that have occurred at these rallies.

Parish Plan – it is hoped that the questionnaire will be distributed to all properties in the Parish on the week commencing May 10th 2010. It will also be available on the website.

Lighting at the 5-a-side football pitch and the Walk way – has been tampered with again. The Parish Council will seek advice on how to make the meters and switches more secure.

The Village Initiative Group treasure hunt  was very successful, and raised £199.00. The money will be used to plant out all the flower beds in the Village, including a new one on the Memorial Hall car park.

Councillor Balchin reported that there is always a lot of litter by the Youth Shelter, and if the Parish Council will provide a metal bin there, the Village Initiative Group will ensure that it is emptied regularly.

Dog Fouling in the Parish has decreased since the Dog Warden sent letters to Parishioners, and two dog owners have been reported for failing to clear up behind their dogs.

A Parishioner has suggested that the Millennium Stone on the playground needs to be renovated. This was agreed, and quotations for the work will be requested.

Another Parishioner has suggested that the Village needs a Press Correspondent. Councillor Christine Brown volunteered to liaise with the Local press.

The new Football Club has requested matched funding for the purchase of new goal posts. This was agreed, to a maximum of £400.00.

Helicopter Noise – Councillor Harvey attended a meeting at Shawbury on March 30th 2010. He reported that they now have a flight simulator, which should reduce the number of flying hours needed.
